1. Paul Vallely( Art of Fibre) ‘Using fibre testing to achieve genetic improvement towards fleece quality’

7pm Thursday 30th July
“For many alpaca breeders, a fibre test is all about the micron result on the test report, however, fibre testing provides an abundance of information that tells us about the genetic potential of an alpaca to produce offspring that grow high quality fleeces. Importantly, the fibre test also provides a window into the alpaca’s ability to withstand the impacts of environmental extremes over the growing season”

2. Updates on Alpaca and llama Research (Dr Karin Mueller, University of Liverpool)

7pm Thursday 3rd September
This evening will provide an overview of recent South-American camelid-related publications: worm control (overdosing, vaccination, self-medication), milk composition, supplementing zinc, use of hormones to control breeding, and medication and disease updates.

3. Neonatal Care (Dr Karin Mueller, University of Liverpool)

7pm Thursday 17th September

This evening will cover care of the newborn cria, between birth and one-week of age. We will look at routine care as well as common problems during this period.

4.Caring for the Rising One Year Old (Dr Karin Mueller, University of Liverpool)

Thursday 8th October

5. Feeding for Fibre – some thoughts about the effects of Nutrition on Alpaca Fibre production.

Graham MacHarg, Fowberry Alpacas
Thursday 29th October 7pm
Balanced and correctly timed nutrition is the key to expressed Genetic Potential and hence Genetic Gain in any Breeding Programme. This reflects not only in the performance of the herd in the Show Ring and the demand for breeding stock in the marketplace, but more importantly in the production of heavy cutting and desirable commercial fleeces and hence the viability of Alpacas in the UK.
